Zoli Heygedus is a virtuoso Gypsy musician who, like so many of his fellow Roms, leads a hopeless life as a second-class citizen in Romania. Unable to turn his talent to advantage, he struggles long days at manual labor to support a pregnant wife and growing family. Increasingly desperate for a way out, Zoli leaves his family behind and enters the U.K. illegally, where he acquires a dangerous construction day job on the outskirts of London in order to send money back home. When an influential English music critic, enamored of the sensual and mysterious Gypsy culture, discovers Zoli's musical talents, the sudden prospects of club dates, concerts, and a cd have Zoli dreaming of fulfilling his artistic dreams at last. But, soon after, an accident at the construction site brings unwelcome attention from British immigration and security authorities, and now Zoli is on the run, fearing that all his new hopes will crumble as he frantically seeks to elude capture.
Omar Metwally (RENDITION, MUNICH, upcoming CITY OF YOUR FINAL DESTINATION, AMSTERDAM) has signed a letter of intent for the lead role of Zoli. Award-winning composers Damian Draghici (Grammy winner) and Yale Strom (award winning violinist and composer) will score the film.
Set at a time in the future when machines exist to solve virtually every human ailment, Trevor Lithium, a well-known writer, finds himself stymied by a heavy-duty case of writer’s block. Given no choice by his publishing house, Lithium undergoes the clinic’s process under the care of the gorgeous Dr S. The highly cinematic stories that emerge from Lithium’s brain, based on seven short stories by the celebrated and award-winning writer, Jonathan Lethem, range from post-apocalyptic science fiction to absurdist comedy and from surrealism to social realism, and Lithium learns a lesson about the detrimental effects of fame and success on the creative process.
Author Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn, The Fortress of Solitude) has agreed to work with a group of independent filmmakers who have banded together to create a feature film from seven of his short stories. Lethem says on his website (www.jonathanlethem.com) "I like art that comes from other art, and I like seeing my stories adapted into other forms. My writing has always been strongly sourced in other voices, and I'm a fan of adaptations, appropriations, collage, and sampling."

In this story filled with magical realism, young Peaches Dandy, a precocious city kid is sent to Georgia by her hardworking single mother to visit her father and grandfather for the first time. Bonding with her creative and quirky grandfather Clayton in a dark and somewhat frightening swamp, where Clayton and her father Sonny run a fish and frog hatchery, Peaches learns the true story of her parents' courtship and love, and why she and her mother live alone in San Francisco. Learning how to adjust in small-town Georgia, from city-kid to country-comfortable, Peaches’ journey is made easier by Mumps, the super-sized bullfrog from the swamp with whom Peaches bonds. With Mumps by her side, Peaches makes friends with the town’s kids, no longer the "brainiac" outcast. Wanting to reunite her parents, Peaches opens a lemonade stand in order to raise money to buy her mother an airplane ticket to bring her to Georgia at the end of the summer. What transpires, however, is life-changing when Peaches discovers something magical that transforms her lemonade into a healing elixir. Will Iris come to Georgia? Will Peaches be able to reunite her parents? Will the magical lemonade create a new life for them all? A colorful and touching tale with shrewd insights into the ever-surprising world of contemporary childhood.
Alexander Fox abandons America under tragic circumstances for a new life abroad in the mysterious country of Andorra, where he soon grows entangled in a surreal web of deceit, romance, and haunting dreams. His new life starts to unravel when he later finds himself under suspicion for murder. This stylish psychological thriller with a perversely comic edge is adapted from Guggenheim Award winning writer Peter Cameron’s celebrated novel. Cameron has written several other widely acclaimed novels and short story collections, including City of Your Final Destination, o be premiered by Merchant Ivory Productions, and Someday This Pain Will be Useful to You , under option to a Spanish production company.
In this endearingly offbeat comedy, Ed Nelson leaves behind a dead end job, lackluster love life, two overachieving parents and all fifty United States to bum around Japan. Surprisingly, this lazy and lovable American abroad finds himself in demand as a language coach because, as newfound girlfriend Kyoko explains, "Everyone here is dying to learn English." Soon this gaijin ("foreigner") lands a spot on a hit television show as a comic language expert whose idiomatic English, "Pitch him a fastball, you bonehead!" drives audiences crazy and turns him into an overnight sensation. But, when fame goes to his head, superstar Ed gets involved with some truly ruthless underworld gamblers and risks losing everything -- job, money, celebrity...and Kyoko. How do you say, "I've been such a fool, baby, I love you" in Japanese?
Mr. Bonehead is an international co-production with Zengo Productions of Tokyo and New York.

Alik has a gift for making friends and lovers, and he's not going to let dying stand in his way...
This boisterous screen adaptation of Russian award-winning writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya's darkly comic novel, The Funeral Party, introduces charismatic Alik and beautiful but distant Irina, emigres from St. Petersburg to New York City who share a poignant love story and a passionate secret that spans two continents and two decades.
When they rediscover each other one steamy summer after years apart, he's still a struggling painter and she now a high-powered attorney. Emotions run high and endless complications ensue as Alik, unfazed by a fatal illness, sets out to find a place for his renewed lover, Irina, and her rebellious teen daughter, Maya, in a life and loft already filled to bursting with his exotic waiflike wife, Nina, his earthy mistress, Valentina, and a host of colorful friends and freeloaders all inspired by their beloved Alik's artistic imagination and lifestyle. In these, his last carefree days, Alik comes to realize, through the celebration of the people surrounding him, that in truth his greatest canvas was the life he led...
Winner of the 2006 South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival Audience Award, Darkon is a documentary feature that follows the real-life adventures of an unusual group of weekend "warrior knights," fantasy role-playing gamers whose live action "battleground" is modern-day Baltimore, Maryland, re-imagined as a make-believe medieval world named Darkon.
These live action gamers combine the physical drama of historical re-enactments with character-driven storylines inspired in part by such perennial favorite fantasy epics as the legends of King Arthur, Lord of the Rings, and the saga of Conan the Barbarian. As role players, these gamers create alter-egos with rich emotional, psychological, and social lives. They costume themselves and physically act out their characters' exploits both in intimate court intrigue and campouts and in panoramic battle scenarios involving competitive strategies, convincingly real props, and full contact "combat."

We encourage those who are intrigued by Ovie Entertainment's vision and interested in investment opportunities to contact us by email at investments@ovie.com or by telephone at 212.450.7983.
We are currently completing the development of our First Slate of movies. We regard ourselves as "balanced" creative producers. We analyze each potential project for development and production in light of two critical elements: the quality of creative Ovie-style content, and the ability of that content to be translated into quality product that is financially viable, commercially marketable and ultimately profitable. Ovie loves and respects creative genius, but our responsibility to our investors is to couple creativity with requisite revenue numbers and distributor interest that will enable us to bring our productions successfully to the marketplace where they can be exhibited, viewed, rented and purchased.
In brief, interested parties would be investing in our First Slate 2011, allowing for investment in a slate of five films, rather than a single film, the more typical independent film business model. Thus, each investment will be diversified over the films in the First Slate, which are intended to reach different, yet broad, demographics, with substantial cross-over potential.
Ovie Entertainment welcomes the opportunity to broaden our community of emerging and established talent. Interested writers, directors, photographers, animators, designers, and composers from around the world may submit their scripts, reels, portfolios, recordings, finished films, and CD/DVD-Roms to Ovie, BUT ONLY after reading our guidelines below:
All artists must submit an Ovie Entertainment Submission Agreement form (either the "Writer's Submission Agreement Form" or the "Submission Agreement Form") along with your original material.
Fill out the appropriate form, available in PDF format below, and mail that signed form with your submission to:

Ovie Entertainment is always looking for screenplays that promise to fulfill our filmmaking vision, and we welcome submissions that you feel share our goals of diverse, high-quality, independent feature films based on intelligent, controversial, and cutting-edge scripts that evidence mastery of structure, causality, and character. We are not generally looking for scripts that are period pieces or require extensive special effects.
A synopsis must accompany all script submissions. Scripts and treatments should be pre-registered with the WGA or with the Copyright Office, please. We're not interested in ripping you off, nor are we looking to become defendants in lawsuits. By protecting yourselves, you'll be protecting Ovie as well.
